Thiago holds a PhD in International Strategic Studies from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Brazil.
He was a Fulbright Visiting Research Fellow at the William J Perry Center for Hemispheric Defense Studies at the National Defense University (NDU) in Washington DC, from 2016–2017.
Thiago has previously worked as an International Relations professor at different Brazilian institutions including the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM), the Higher School of Advertising and Marketing (ESPM-Sul), and the University of Taquari Valley (UNIVATES), where he also coordinated the undergraduate course in International Relations.
He maintains an independent research agenda focused on the interface between the use of force, science fiction and International Relations.
