The crushing defeat of Viktor Orbán’s Fidesz in Hungary’s 2026 elections gives the EU a rare opportunity to reform its enlargement policy. Iveri Kekenadze Gustafsson argues that this moment can accelerate candidates’ path to membership and prevent single states from derailing the process for domestic or bilateral political gain
From July 2026, Iveri will also be a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) at the Malmö Academy of Music, Lund University.
His research lies at the intersection of EU enlargement, European integration, and artistic citizenship, with a particular focus on the societal role of music and higher music education.
Iveri's publications include work on the Europeanisation of higher music education and EU enlargement dynamics, such as articles in Baltic Worlds and European Studies Review, as well as a forthcoming systematic review of EU enlargement research.
