The EU did not foresee how autocratisation would unfold in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). But political scientists failed to raise the alarm, too. Lise Herman, James Dawson and Aurelia Ananda show that optimistic assumptions about democratisation misled policy makers and researchers alike
Lecturer in Comparative Politics, Queen Mary, University of London
Aurelia's research lies at the intersection of comparative politics and political behaviour, with a focus on developing democracies and electoral autocracies.
She has previously published papers on democratic understanding and support for democracy in Southeast Asia and Central/Eastern Europe.
More recently, her research has focused on the gendered development of political knowledge and preferences in newly democratic societies.
