Zoe currently conducts research in the CRC1265 project The Borders of the World II: Conflicts and Tensions in the Formation of Macro-Territorial Borders on border and migration regimes in regional integration projects.

Her research interests include borders, migration, and regional integration.

Zoe has published research in Regional Studies, Regional Science journal, co-authored a chapter in the edited volume Spatial Conflicts and Conflictual Spaces (Routledge, 2025), and contributed to the Open Access title Figuring Out Spaces: On the Sociality of Spaces and the Spatiality of the Social, published on Transcript.
