Social media platforms allow radical political actors to communicate with, and organise at, the sub-national level, enabling engagement beyond existing activist cohorts. Exploring local strategies of dissident Irish republicans and the far right in the UK and Ireland, Thomas Evans analyses this phenomenon
Thomas received his DPhil in Sociology from the University of Oxford in 2024, with a thesis on strategic choice and change within contemporary 'dissident' Irish republicanism.
He is interested primarily in the strategic choices of 'fringe' organisations which exist on the margins of social and political movements.
Thomas is in the process of publishing his doctoral research and applying for postdoctoral positions.
