Sonia is amember of the Board of Directors of the Institute of International Affairs (Rome), and a member of the Board of the European International Studies Association, of which she is currently Executive Secretary (2023–2025).
Her areas of expertise include the European Union's foreign policy and external image, European security, NATO, European identity and foreign policy, migration, and global justice.
She has published widely on her areas of competence, among others, in the Journal of Common Market Studies, European Security, West European Politics, Journal of Contemporary European Studies, Journal of European Integration, and The International Spectator.
