In his research Sebastian focuses on topics from the field of social and political sciences, which in the broadest sense reveal lines of social conflict.

Drawing mostly on survey data and applying quantitative and experimental methods, he recently investigated the influence of political-ideological views on attitudes towards SARS-CoV-2 vaccinations, hate speech in social media against mayors, and the attitudes of Germans towards gender-sensitive language.

Together with Uwe Wagschal he runs the Politikpanel Deutschland, an online survey panel with several thousand participants.
