Ronald’s research explores domestic and international dimensions of populism.

In particular, he focuses on populist democratic ideals within the political cultures of Italy and Germany.

Ronald's work also covers foreign policy decision-making in populist governments, populist foreign policy rhetoric and, most recently, public opinion effects of populist leaders’ confrontational foreign policy.

Alongside Judith Reinbold, he is an Assistant Managing Editor of the peer-reviewed journal Statistics, Politics and Policy.
