Using computational methods including causal inference and machine learning, Michael's research explores how public policy and climate change shape societies.

He has published in leading journals including the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) and Comparative Political Studies.

His current projects investigate how pension reforms affect political behaviour, socioeconomic inequality, and health outcomes.
