To kickstart a new round of blogs in the Gendering Democracy series, Paloma Caravantes, Laura Eigenmann and Francesca Feo recap the discussion so far, explaining why we need to keep gender at the centre of research on the politics of our time – and where we should go next
Postdoctoral Researcher, Institute of Sociology, Freie Universität Berlin
Laura's research examines the transnational politics of gender and sexuality, with particular focus on how LGBTIQ+ rights become international norms, the construction of sexual citizenship in Europe, and the role of international organisations in promoting gender equality.
She is currently working in a project analysing gender equality and diversity discourses in EU and US science policies.
In addition to her research, Laura has a background in national-level LGBTIQ+ activism, has served as an editorial manager of a Swiss queer youth magazine, and regularly engages with media outlets to communicate research on LGBTIQ+ rights and gender politics to broader audiences.
