Kristine's research covers transitional justice processes; the causes and consequences of election violence; urban conflict and police-community relations; and the causes of peace in southern Africa.

Her work has featured in leading academic journals, including the British Journal of Political Science, International Studies Quarterly, Journal of Conflict Resolution, Political Geography, Urban Studies and African Affairs.

She is currently an associate editor of the Journal of Peace Research.
