Her research interests include EU asylum policy, asylum (border) procedures, interpretive research methods, political philosophy, and research ethics.
She previously worked on a range of topics including migration, asylum, human rights and civil liberties in the European Parliament, at UNHCR and in the NGOs EuroMed Rights and A Buon Diritto.
Gaia holds a double MA in Contemporary History from Università La Sapienza and Université Aix-Marseille, and a BA in Modern and Contemporary History from Università La Sapienza.
