Broadly speaking, Gibrán's work focuses on the development of welfare systems and social protection in Latin America and the Caribbean.

His most recent book Welfare and Social Protection in Contemporary Latin America, was published by Routledge in 2019.

Gibrán is co-editor of Alternautas, a peer-reviewed blog and journal on Latin American critical development studies.
