Esra previously taught at Sciences Po d’Aix, from where she received her PhD.

She has also been a visiting scholar at George Washington University in DC.

Her doctoral dissertation addressed the post-Cold War effects of Iran's nuclear programme on the US-Turkey relationship.

Her current research focuses on conventional weapons, and arms trade.

Esra's published works deal with nuclear security, weapons of mass destruction, arms trade, and missile systems.
